Background: The MPO Regional Coordination and Best Practices Research study will look realistically and comprehensively at the ways regional coordination are conducted across the Tampa Bay region (defined as Hernando, Citrus, Pasco, Pinellas, Hillsborough, Sarasota, Manatee, and Polk Counties). The study builds on the May 2017 Collaborative Labs workshop on regional transportation planning that was sponsored by the Hillsborough, Pinellas and Pasco MPOs. Specific objectives include:

  • Clearly define what successful regional coordination means for Tampa Bay;
  • Identify the barriers to its execution through available empirical evidence;
  • Develop several implementable scenarios based on an examination of nation-wide best practices for regional transportation planning, and;
  • Build consensus around a singular, preferred framework for improving regional coordination and responsibility in Tampa Bay, with effective mechanisms for providing consistent, relevant information to elected officials as well as the public.
